15 of 45 Moments of Wonder
Do you know your gift? That one thing you bring to the world that only you can bring? That thing that lifts your spirit and expands your heart when you do it? What is that thing you can’t quite explain but you know it is your gift? My gifts? I am still trying to determine that, but I wonder if this, the blog, my writing, is my gift? I wonder if sharing words, whether in written form or spoken word or through music is my gift? I wonder if it brings comfort to others or light to the dark places.
Whatever your gift, whenever you discover it, you owe it to yourself and to life itself to nurture it and to use it to make the world a better place. For some of us our gifts lead us to paid work that feeds our souls and gives us purpose. For others of us, we find time outside of our paid jobs to nurture our gifts. Again, find your gift. Nurture it. Feed your soul with it.
Where will your gifts take you today? Will it lead you to make a difference in the life of another? Will it bring you personal joy and fulfillment? Will your gift make the world a little better today? Will it take you to places you haven’t even imagined yet?
Why should we nurture our gifts? I think we need to nurture our gifts for two reasons. First, you are the only person on earth right now who can do what you do the way you do it. And since you are the only one, you must use your gift to change life for others. Whether you are a scientist finding a cure for disease or a musician writing beautiful music to uplift others, you owe it to the world. Second, our gifts differ from things we are good at (though we will be good at that which is our gift) because it feeds us. Nurturing our gifts nurtures our hearts and feeds the soul. We are empowered and emboldened and we just feel better when we nurture our gifts.
So, how are you going to discover your gift if you don’t know what it is? Ask yourself,
- What am I good at?
- What brings me joy and feeds my soul?
- What do I do that makes the world better?
That thing which answers all three questions, that is your gift.
How can I help you to nurture your gift?
